I recently had the opportunity to visit North Texas Neuropsychology & Behavioral Medicine Services in Frisco, Texas, and learn more about the work they do with children and families in the area.
I met with Sean, who was incredibly welcoming and took the time to tell me about their practice, their team, and how they work with families seeking autism evaluations.
And I have to say, I was really impressed!
First Impressions Matter!
One of the first things that stood out to me was how beautiful and welcoming their office was.
Sometimes, walking into a medical or evaluation office can feel a little intimidating, especially for children. But this place had a completely different feel.
The waiting area had comfortable couches, plenty of toys and books, and just a really warm, inviting atmosphere. It felt like a place where families could actually relax and children could feel comfortable.
It’s one of those little things that can make a big difference, especially when you’re bringing your child in for an evaluation that could take several hours.
Getting to Know Dr. Shannon Taylor
During my visit, I learned quite a bit about Dr. Shannon E. Taylor, PhD, the clinical neuropsychologist behind the practice.
And she certainly brings a lot of experience to the table!
Dr. Taylor has been working in neuropsychology for over 20 years and has been with North Texas Neuropsychology & Behavioral Medicine Services since 2008.
Before that, she worked at several well-known healthcare organizations in the Dallas area, including Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, where she completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology and later worked as a staff neuropsychologist. She also worked as a pediatric neuropsychologist at Children’s Health and Neuropsychology Consultants in McKinney.
She earned her PhD in Clinical Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine from the University of North Texas in 2003.
But beyond her impressive background, what really stood out to me was hearing about the reputation she’s built in the local community.
Sean shared that many families find Dr. Taylor through recommendations from other parents. She’s also active in local Facebook groups, where families have gotten to know her over the years.
It’s always encouraging to hear about professionals who have dedicated so much of their careers to helping children and families right here in North Texas.
You can learn more about Dr. Taylor on her LinkedIn profile or visit the practice’s website.
What Are Their Autism Evaluations Like?
One thing I found interesting was how much time they dedicate to each evaluation.
Their evaluations generally take around 3–4 hours, depending on the child’s age and individual needs.
Sean explained that Dr. Taylor typically sees just two patients per testing day, allowing plenty of time for each evaluation. They generally schedule autism evaluations twice a week.
Here’s something I thought was especially nice: They even provide lunch during longer evaluations for children!
This also gives the team an opportunity to observe children in a more natural, everyday setting.
I thought that was a really thoughtful touch.
The practice also has graduate students and clinicians in training involved in its work, including master’s and doctoral students.
Beyond autism, the practice also evaluates children and adults for ADHD, learning difficulties, and a variety of other developmental and behavioral concerns.
You can read more about their evaluations on their Patient Services page.
What About Insurance, Pricing, and Wait Times?
For parents considering an evaluation, here are a few practical things I learned during my visit.
The practice works with several major commercial insurance providers, including:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- UnitedHealthcare
- Cigna
They don’t accept Medicaid.
For families paying out of pocket, I was told that an autism evaluation generally costs $3,500, depending on the testing required.
Sean mentioned that some other evaluation providers in the area charge as much as $6,000, so they feel their pricing is quite competitive.
And they’re definitely keeping busy!
When I visited in October 2026, Sean told me they were already booking appointments into April 2027.
If you’re considering an evaluation, I’d recommend reaching out sooner rather than later. It’s also worth asking whether earlier appointments become available through cancellations.
Of course, pricing, insurance coverage, and appointment availability can change, so it’s always best to confirm directly with the office.
You can find more information about insurance and pricing on their Insurance page.
Helping Families Figure Out What’s Next
Another thing I really liked was learning how they help families connect with services after an evaluation.
They actually keep a spreadsheet of local providers, including what insurance each one accepts, what areas they serve, and what types of services they offer.
So when a family needs ABA therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, or other support, they can help point them toward providers who might be a good fit.
They also have brochures available in the office and provide families with information about different service options.
I appreciated seeing that they put thought into helping families find the right resources.
During my visit, I also had the opportunity to introduce Sean to Bright Pathways ABA and share what we’re doing to make high-quality ABA therapy more accessible to families throughout North Texas.
At Bright Pathways, we provide personalized, one-on-one ABA therapy for children with autism, right in their own home or daycare. We serve families throughout Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Allen, Prosper, and surrounding Dallas–Fort Worth communities.
Our therapy focuses on helping children develop meaningful skills in communication, social interaction, independence, and everyday living. Each child’s treatment plan is tailored to their individual needs, with experienced Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) overseeing therapy and working closely with families.
One of the things I love about our home-based and daycare-based approaches is that children get to learn and practice skills in the environment where they actually use them. Whether it’s communicating their needs, getting dressed independently, managing challenging behaviors, or interacting with family members, we’re helping children build skills that make a real difference in their daily lives.
Another big advantage of our home-based model is that we’re not limited by the number of rooms or available spaces in a therapy center. Instead, we can expand our services by bringing qualified therapists directly to families in their communities. This flexibility allows us to generally avoid the long waiting lists that families often encounter when looking for ABA therapy.
We currently have no waitlists for families with BCBS commercial, Aetna, and UnitedHealthcare/Optum/UMR. However, we work particularly closely with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), allowing us to move through the process and get families started the fastest with BCBS commercial insurance.
We also work with Texas Medicaid and other insurance plans, although families with Medicaid should generally expect a longer wait due to the more time-consuming insurance approval process. Our team helps families navigate every step, from verifying benefits and scheduling assessments to securing authorizations and coordinating their therapy team.
For parents who have recently received an autism diagnosis, or who have been struggling to find an ABA provider with availability, we’d love to help make the next steps easier.

It was wonderful sharing our approach with Sean and learning more about how their team connects families with services after an evaluation. Building relationships with dedicated local professionals like Dr. Taylor and her team is part of our commitment to helping North Texas families access the support their children deserve.
